Burnout: Revenge

BURNOUT!!!!!! Hell ya' the newest version of Burnout has come out: Burnout Revenge. I thought of this game as a sequel and was expecting a little more out of it than what I got. I came to realize that it's more of a continuation of Burnout 3: Takedown than an actual Burnout 4. They upped the anti on all the stuff that Burnout 3 had, so if you are a hardcore gamer, you would be happy. Unfortunately, some changes I did not like...

  1. The Crash nav is crap. Instead of being able to select the country/town/track they replaced the map with a scrolly thing that makes it a little confusing as to where you're gonna begin driving.
  2. Instead of car categories like coupes, sports, supers, and specials, they replaced that with another scrolling feature where instead of a description of "Assassin Sport", you get a name like...You've chosen the "RX 3937502034980043 5 billion" I hate that crap, and really only applies to the hardcore car enthusiast.
  3. There are only like 3 or 4 maps in the game. They have different routes, but they're limited maps, so that kinda' sucked.
  4. They took out the most valued section of the game that Burnout 3 had: my replay value. I spent hours upon hours playing single event road rage, and crash stuff with Burnout 3. When I had parties, that's what we did; we traded off controllers and watched each other road rage and try to beat each other's kill score. Instead of this they made it accessible for 2 player split screen and online play is more prominent. I can't speak for everyone but I hate online play if it starts messing up my single player experience. Halo 2 did it and now Burnout...
As for things I like...I like the graphics and the new stylized look everything has now. I like mods to the Eliminator races, the alternate tracks, and the air born feature. Checking traffic is ok too, but I'd prefer to try and dodge it. The music was good, too. Not as great on spot as Burnout 3, but it had its good songs.

As far as the verdict goes...If you liked Burnout 3 you'll like Revenge, but it's not a game to take lightly. It's for the hardcore racing fans. It's not just a bumper bowling race track; each track is laced with lips that if you get to close to the side for too long, you crash easily. Definitely check this one out, but don't buy it unless you're sure. Get Burnout 3 instead. It has better single player replay value if you're poor like I am and can't afford online play.

Great!

Buy it if you like it, but rent it to make sure.

Burnout 3 was still better...
