King Kong

I'm not too big of a fan of Peter Jackson's recent stuff--I can't stand Lord of the Rings. But King Kong has been a driving force in movies for a long time, and I knew he would do it justice. If you don't know the story of King Kong, then you're an idiot, and don't deserve it told to you...like all those other idiots who found out that the monkey died at the end. That's right, I killed the ending for you. Anyway, this movie is just like the original only better: more violence and intense action sequences. The movie was very well realized and thought out for the most part, but like most of Jackson's recent work, scenes are just too drawn out. Some of these scenes just drag on for way too long, either in the dialogue or otherwise. The movie is graphically amazing at some points, and there was some very good violence in there as well. I guess the big thing was that Jack Black was in it and playing a serious part. He was good. The only thing that was bad was the last line of the movie: " 'twas beauty that killed the beast" was not said very well. If I was the director I would have had him do it over 'cause it wasn't that good. Other than that he did well.

Even if you're not a King Kong fan this is a must see. Some of the scenes in here put Jurassic Park to shame...but only some. Not all.

I've never seen the original King Kong--The only scene I know is the famous one at the end where he's hanging off the side of the Empire State Building--but I was pretty eager to go and see the remake, just because King Kong is a classic film, but also because the visual effects just looked so awesome. As far as the CG goes, it's definitely not a disappointment. Although there was just something lacking to make this a really great movie.

In all honesty, it's probably the fact that Peter Jackson is incapable of making a movie that's less than 3 hours long and doesn't have scenes that draw on and on. I think that he focuses so much on the drama and the build up that he completely forgets all about actually progressing the movie along. There were a few too many scenes in this movie where the girl and the monkey are just sort of staring at each other not doing much of anything.

But, overall, the movie WAS actually fairly entertaining, despite what was kind of a "meh" performance by Jack Black. He wasn't terrible, but I think he should stick to comedy stuff since it's kind of how most people know him and he's better at it.

Great!

If you've been waiting for a special effects movie to come out that would blow your mind away, this is the closest you're gonna get so far. But it's lengthy. Enjoy it.

Meh...

Sorry for the sloppy review, but there's not much for me to say about it. It was a decent movie, and worth checking out, but it won't be making my top 10 list.
