This movie is one of the most anticipated movies for me this year. When I got a
glimpse of the trailer this looked like it was gonna be good, and faithful to the
games.
First off I am a major fan of the games, so this movie had a lot to live up to,
and it did just that. It tried to get into the creepy Silent Hill-ness as fast as
possible but created a simple plot to follow along with. Like the first game, it's
a parent going through the creepy, foggy streets of Silent Hill looking for their
child. While on this journey the mother comes across different clues that lead her
to different parts of the town. They gave the hellish dilapidated gooey effects
a twist in this movie that was intelligent. Every so often a loud fog horn would
sound coming from the church ...which gave you about a 2 minute leeway before all
the creepy demons and blood covered walls came about. I won't ruin the plot points,
but like the games, the entire story comes together in the end with a revelation
of why the town is like it is, and why certain people are the way they are...and
just were the hell the daughter went in the first place.
I just thank the movie people for making this movie rated R and giving it the respect
it deserved. Nothing was overly gory but it did have its taste of the twisted side.
It was very intelligent and well done, like the games. On top of all that, the music
is straight from the games; No original specific movie score. It's the creepy, off-beat
melodic music ambiance we all know and love.
Even with the loud, ignorant, laughing, cell phone ringing people in the theater,
I still managed to enjoy this movie a great deal. Even people who have never played,
or even know anything about the games will have a good creepy time.
